Why does my mailto link break on spaces or ampersands?
Those characters have meaning in URLs and must be percent-encoded. The generator encodes the subject and body so the link opens correctly.
Is a mailto link better than a contact form?
It is simpler but relies on the visitor having a configured email app, and it exposes your address to scrapers. A contact form avoids both problems.
